Dan Chavar, a man known for his remarkable integrity, decency, and kindness, passed away peacefully at his home in Broomall, PA, on September 5, 2024. He was 71.
Beloved husband to Peg (nee Park), Dan was a devoted and loving father to his four children: Nicole Radio (Mark), Matthew Park-Chavar (Riley), Sierra Park-Chavar (Jay), and Megan Kingsland (Steve). He was an extraordinary Pop-Pop to his five grandchildren—JD, Luke, Ryan, Maggie, and Cole—who brought him immense joy and pride.
Dan is survived by his brother, Tony (Dina), as well as a large, loving extended family and many lifelong friends. He was predeceased by his parents, John W. and Marjorie K. Chavar (nee Walters), and his cherished sister, Joanne.
A graduate of Marple Newtown High School in 1970, Dan traveled extensively across the country and overseas, forming lasting friendships and memories. For several years, he worked throughout the Middle East before returning home. Dan’s unwavering work ethic led to a successful 30-plus-year career at Bowen Inc., where he was highly respected and loved by his work family.
In retirement, Dan’s care for animals and nature led him to volunteer countless hours at the Brandywine Valley SPCA and Ridley Creek State Park. He was a man of many passions, well-read, and interested in everything from hiking and road trips to sports, music, and motorcycles. His love for dogs was legendary, and every dog he encountered found a friend in him.
While he embraced countless adventures and travels throughout his life, Dan found his greatest joy in the simple moments—at home on a Sunday afternoon, surrounded by family and friends who stopped by to visit.
In memorial to Dan, delight in a walk in the woods, a chat with a friend, children laughing on a playground, an Eagles victory, a good book, or the love of a pet…and remember Dan.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Visitation 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM, Monday, September 9, 2024 at The Donohue Funeral Home, 3300 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square, PA 19073, followed by his Memorial Service at 3:30 PM. Interment is private.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Brandywine Valley SPCA, 1212 Phoenixville Pike, West Chester, PA 19380 or to the Marple Library, 2599 Sproul Rd, Broomall, PA 19008.
