Obituary published on Legacy.com by Kings Funeral Home - Lake Charles on Jun. 27, 2025.
Daniel Anthony Collins was born on November 22, 1959, in
Lake Charles, Louisiana, to the late Martell Collins and Elfie Papillion Collins. He was baptized as an infant at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Lake Charles. Also, he served as an altar server in the church. No matter what life threw at him, he was led to believe that God would see him through - And God did!
Daniel was never married, but he had a host of siblings, seven (7) of them, as well as nephews, nieces, and cousins. He made each one feel that they were the most special.
Daniel, known to many as "Uncle Dan," graduated from Washington High School in
Lake Charles, Louisiana, in 1979. His favorite classes were shop and choir. A few months later, he was accepted into the Navy Academy, where he served as an Airplane Mechanic. After he returned home from the Navy, he attended McNeese State University to pursue nursing studies.
Daniel was a humble man with a sense of humor and wit; he had a deep love for family and friends. His favorite sports team depended on the community where he lived. When he lived in Lake Charles, the Saints were his favorite team. And when he relocated to the Dallas/Fort Worth area, he was loyal to the Dallas Cowboys.
Daniel found it necessary to keep up with family and help others. He was a diligent worker and dedicated to completing tasks.
Daniel passed away peacefully on June 21, 2025, at the age of 65. Though he left our physical presence, his impact will forever be imprinted in our hearts. His voice, laughter, and warmth will be missed, but his love for others will remain with us. Daniel gave it so freely. We honor his life by coming together in love, giving back, and lifting each other.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Martell Collins and Elfie Papillion Collins; one sister, Dianna Simien, and one brother, Mitchell Collins.
His four sisters survive him; Savia Collins White of Baton Rouge, LA; Mary Collins Thibodeaux (Dewey Lewis, Jr.) of Fort Worth, TX (formerly of
Lake Charles, LA); Jacqueline Collins Thurn (Melvin) of Breaux Bridge, LA; Angela Collins Thompson (Rico) of Manassas, VA; one brother, Paul Collins of Breaux Bridge, LA; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and other relatives that will miss him tremendously.
Funeral services for Daniel will be held on Thursday, July 3 at 11:00 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. A visitation service will be at 9am-10:30am at King's Funeral Home prior to the funeral. A Rosary will be held at 9:30am. Burial will be at Combre Memorial Park under the direction of King's Funeral Home.
"The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures,
He leads me beside the quiet waters, he
Refreshes my soul. He guides me along the
Right paths for his name's sake, even though I
Walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil,
For you are with me, your rod, and your staff,
They comfort me."
Psalm 23
