Obituary published on Legacy.com by Berry-McGreevey-Martens Funeral Home & Cremation Service on Sep. 19, 2025.
Daniel Edward Dietz began his final journey when he died suddenly at home at the age of 78 on 8-18-25. He was predeceased by his parents, Anthony E. Dietz and Rosalie L. (Novak) Dietz and his brother, Anthony Richard Dietz. Dan leaves behind a host of loving cousins, niece, nephew, grandnieces, grandnephews and sister-in-law. Also left behind, until they meet again at the rainbow bridge, his loyal and grieving dog, Wolfie and his dear cats, Izzy, Inky, Binky and Squeakers.
After graduating from St. Edward High School, Dan proudly served our country in the Army in Vietnam from 1966 to 1967, becoming an expert marksman.
After returning home, Dan became a talented and competent Master Mechanic. His mechanical skills and abilities when working on cars, trucks, motorcycles and boats were exceptional. If he couldn't fix something broken, no one could. He even built a house by hand, with the help of friends and neighbors, thus attesting to his amazing carpentry skills. He was proudly employed by the State of Ohio, Department of Natural Resources as an auto mechanic from 11-30-80 to 11-29-02 where he accumulated many written accolades from upper management.
Dan was an avid boater and fisherman. He loved both and spent many hours on Lake Erie, out of sight of land, searching for walleye. Closer in, he loved fishing for perch and having a brewski or two. Just being on the water was his love. He is now certainly enjoying fair winds and following seas.
Dan was also an accomplished guitar player. He made his guitars sing! His notes have faded, but his melodies linger on.
Dan's love for motorcycle riding took him from Brookside Park in Cleveland to three cross country riding adventures. He also enjoyed many local rides, particularly through the Metroparks. Surely, he is now riding safely and without traffic with all his riding buddies that predeceased him.
Dan enjoyed many trips to near and distant lands, but he always preferred home the best. Included in his travels were scuba diving trips in our most beautiful seas and lakes. Far horizons have called to claim him. He has now received the final stamp in his passport.
Dan was a kind, generous to a fault, loving man and the best friend and husband one could ever ask for. His love for animals including strays knew no bounds. Donations in his name to the Kamms Cat Guardians charity would be forever appreciated by him.
Dan, your memory is a blessing, your memory is a treasure. You are loved beyond words and you are missed beyond measure. I'm incredibly grateful we chose each other with love, over and over again throughout our 56 years together. I know you will be waiting for me at the Arrival Gate with open arms.
Interment will be private. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
