Daniel F. Homuth, 81, met the Lord early Saturday, September 20, 2025, at Hospice Home of Hope after a brief illness.

Dan was born January 22, 1944, in Fond du Lac, the son of Elmer E. and Lydia Haberman Homuth. A 1962 graduate of L. P. Goodrich High School, he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. While attending college, Dan worked at Fond du Lac Stone Company in many positions as a laborer, where his training served as a stepping stone to his future career at the company.

On September 12, 1970, he wed Paula Holmes at St. Joseph Church in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, with Fr. Michael Shea officiating. Dan and Paula recently celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary.

Dan served in the Wisconsin National Guard from 1966 to 1972, attaining the rank of Sergeant. After two years of employment with the Wisconsin Department of Justice, Department of Criminal Investigation, he accepted an offer for the position of salesman at Fond du Lac Stone Company in 1974, followed by his appointment as manager and president in 1980, and eventually to ownership of the company until its sale to Michels Corporation in 1997.

Among his numerous interests and activities, Dan enjoyed sailing with Paula and their son, Erik. Their adventures on the Great Lakes and the North Channel spanned over 45 years. Dan's keen interest in birds and knowledge about bird life ranged from watching at his backyard feeders to his sightings while traveling near and far. He also was an avid trout fisherman, a pastime that took him to fishing spots throughout Wisconsin, especially the Wisconsin Driftless Region. He was the last of his "fishing buddies" group.

Dan was a go-to person for support and advice and whenever a helping hand was needed. He was generous with his time and talent in countless volunteer capacities, from ringing the Salvation Army Red Kettle Christmas bells to transporting neighbors and friends to medical appointments and visiting shut-ins, delivering meals, and pitching in on projects large and small.

Dan was a member of both Holy Family and Sons of Zebedee Catholic churches. His leadership roles at Sons of Zebedee included serving as parish council president, trustee, and many years as an usher. He was a member of the Fond du Lac Yacht Club since 1978 and the Byron Historical Society.

In addition to his parents, Dan was preceded in death by Paula's parents Ellis and Esther Holmes; his sisters Jane Homuth Thompson and Constance Homuth Newman and her husband, John; sisters-in-law Barbara Holmes Moore and her husband Robert; Mary Holmes Grace and her husband Daniel; and Pamela Holmes Marsh and her husband David.

Those who survive him are his loving wife, their son, Erik D. Homuth; his brother E. Frederick Homuth of Scottsdale, Arizona; brother-in-law Gerald Thompson of Minnesota; sister-in-law Nancy Holmes DeCono and her husband Richard of Watertown, Wisconsin; brother-in-law Phillip Holmes of Whittier, California; special nephew Luke Newman and his wife, Ginnette, of Fond du Lac; many other nieces and nephews; and his canine sidekick, Lily, who served as his faithful co-pilot on many journeys.

SERVICES: Dan's family invites friends and relatives to a time of visitation on Tuesday, September 30, 2025 at Holy Family Catholic Church from 9:00 AM until 10:45 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place following the visitation at 11:00 AM. Burial will take place at St. John Cemetery in Byron.

Memorials may be directed to Sarnelli House, a children's orphanage founded in Thailand by Fr. Michael Shea (Friends of Sarnelli House UA, Box 88234, Milwaukee WI 53288-0234) or a memorial close to your heart.
