Daniel E. Mealy, 87, of Conneaut Lake, loved to travel and traveled from his home to be with the angels in Heaven on Wednesday, July 17, 2024. He was born on November 19, 1936 in Oil City; PA was the son of Ruth A. (Tarr) Mealy and Blaine Mealy. He graduated from Oil City High School in 1955 and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1956 and worked as a disbursing clerk on the USS Canberra and USS Boston. He was honorably discharged in 1960, having earned the rank of second class. When Dan returned from the Navy, he worked as an assistant manager for A&P, was promoted to manager of the Meadville store and then the Erie store. When A&P closed, he became the manager of Golden Dawn in Sandy Lake, where he retired in 1998.
While on leave from the Navy, he met his wife, Jane A. Bean, at a dance. They married on October 8, 1960 in Oil City and began their family. The family then moved to Conneaut Lake in 1972.
Dan was involved in Boy Scouts of America, Conneaut Lake Garden Club, and was a faithful member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He also served the community on the borough council and as a notary public for 40 years.
Dan enjoyed playing cards and board games and all kinds of puzzles. He was an avid sports fan, having played baseball, softball, bowling, and golf. He always rooted for his Pittsburgh teams. Gardening was his passion and everyone enjoyed walking by and looking at his beautiful flowers.
Dan enjoyed many beach vacations and cruises with family. He also enjoyed traveling with a special group of friends on many trips and outings. He was very proud of his family and was always interested in the lives of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Dan is preceded in death by his mother and father, sister, Patricia Williams and brother-in-law, Randall Williams.
He leaves behind his loving wife Jane: four children Deborah (Charles) Shrump, Darryl (Dana) Mealy, Darlene (Jeffrey) Toohey, and Darren (Laura) Mealy; nine grandchildren, Andrew (Amanda) Shrump, Adam Shrump, Joshua (Brittany) Mealy, Jason Toohey, Alyssa Shrump, Derek (Candice) Toohey, Shane (Lauren) Mealy, Caden Mealy, Kendall Mealy; and six great-grandchildren, with the seventh great-grandchild arriving in October.
The family will receive friends on Friday, September 6, 2024 at 4PM at Trinity Global Methodist Church, 240 N. Third St., Conneaut Lake, followed by a Celebration of Life at 5PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to Hospice of Crawford County, 766 Liberty St., Meadville, PA 16335, Trinity Global Methodist Church, 240 N 3rd. St., Conneaut Lake, PA 16316 or Conneaut Lake Garden Club, PO Box 21, Conneaut Lake, PA 16316.

We were cruising with Dan, Jane and group. One day we were playing card game Dan taught us. I will just say a 2 of clubs made him loose that game. He was so surprised and we all laughed until we cried. We had many great times together. He will be greatly missed.
