Daniel Terence Mullin, affectionately known as Danny, passed away on June 5, 2025, in the comfort of his mancave, surrounded by his family, memories, and hobbies that brought joy to his 56 years of life. Born on June 11, 1968, in Midland, Michigan, he was the beloved son of Charles R. Mullin and the late Shelia M. (Killeen) Mullin. Dan's life was a testament to his intelligence, friendliness, and analytical mind, which he applied to every aspect of his existence. He had the rare ability to make complex ideas accessible, always ready to engage in thoughtful conversation or entertaining debates.
Dan graduated from Sault Area High School with a passion for knowledge that led him to earn a PhD in political science. He dedicated 23 years as a financial analyst for the State of Michigan, where his work was distinguished by precision and a deep understanding of the power of data to improve lives. On February 18, 2000, he married the love of his life, Bethany Kae Rossow, in the vibrant city of Las Vegas. Together, they built a family and a life full of adventure and love.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Bethany; his cherished daughters, Caitlyn and Emily Mullin; his father, Charles; and his siblings, Joseph (Deborah) Mullin, Michael Mullin, Anne O'Connor, and Kevin (Julie) Mullin.
Dan's interests were as expansive as the night sky he loved to observe. A keen astronomer and weather enthusiast, he found peace in the patterns of the universe. His love for travel took him to many places, but the lakeside cabin at Trout Lake in Canada held a special place in his heart. He often quipped, "This is my world, and you just live in it," a testament to his conviction to live life on his own terms.
Dan was a man who truly lived life to the fullest. He loved to laugh, have fun, and embrace every moment with an open heart and adventurous spirit. Whether he was traveling across the globe or simply trying something new around the corner, Dan was always up for an experience and always willing to try anything at least once.
More than just a lover of life, Dan was deeply kind and endlessly generous. He was the type of person who would help anyone, at any time, without hesitation or question - if you needed him, he was there. His warmth, humor, and selflessness touched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know him.
As a pillar in the racquetball community, Dan co-founded the Capital Area Racquetball Association and was a respected member of the Racquetball Hall of Fame. His dedication to the sport was evident as he served as the racquetball director for the Michigan Athletic Club (MAC) and ran the racquetball program at the MAC with unwavering commitment. His leadership and vision led him to serve as the President of the Michigan Racquetball Association for many years, nurturing the sport's growth and fostering a community of players.
In the words of the great Robert Frost, "In three words I can sum up everything I've learned about life: it goes on." Dan lived by this philosophy, embracing change and challenges with grace and optimism. He often said that fear was a waste of time, and you should live every day like it could be your last so you wouldn't live with any regrets. His legacy is not just in his achievements but in the lives he enriched and the love and laughter he shared.
As we say goodbye to Dan, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a journey completed with courage and authenticity. His story does not end here, for he leaves behind a tapestry of memories that will continue to inspire and guide those who were fortunate enough to know him. Dan did life his way, and in doing so, he showed us all how to shine a little brighter in our own worlds.
Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 11, 2025 at 11:00am at St. Mary Catholic Church in Morrice. The Mullin family will receive friends at the church beginning at 10:00am.
