Daniel "Danny" Joseph Rachid, age 64, of Moyock, NC, passed away at his residence on Saturday, May 3, 2025. He was born in New Bern, NC, on October 26, 1960, to the late Raymond Rachid and Julia Banks Rachid.
Danny was a brilliant math teacher at Grassfield High School, where he shared his passion and knowledge with countless students over the years. With a heart full of compassion, he was dedicated to nurturing young minds and inspiring them to reach their fullest potential. He also took great pride in being an original "Grizzly", as a member of the faculty when the school first opened.
Outside of his professional life, Danny was a man of varied interests. He found joy on the golf course, excitement in NASCAR races, and fulfillment in working on cars, a hobby he had recently embraced. He took meticulous care of his yard and spent a lot of time on his treadmill.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 27 years, Debra Rachid; his treasured daughter, Abby; his brothers, Jeff Rachid of Norfolk, VA, Mark Rachid (Carmen) of Linthicum, MD, and Chris Rachid (Trish) of Ormond Beach, FL; and his "chosen brother," Tom Brown.
Though his absence leaves a profound void, the memories of Danny's laughter, kindness, and generosity will continue to inspire all who knew him.
A gathering of friends and family will be held from 2:00 to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 7, 2025, in the event room at Eagle Creek Golf Club, 109 Green View Road, Moyock, NC 27958.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Church of New Beginnings, 112 Currituck Commercial Drive #D, Moyock, NC 27958, or to the American Cancer Society (donate.cancer.org), PO Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741.

I had Mr. Rachid for both Algebra 2 and trigonometry when I attended Grassfield. He truly was a kind man who was determined to bring out the best in each and every student. He was committed to teaching and one of my favorite teachers to ever learn from and one of the few to ever get me to care about a subject I had little interest in. I was truly lucky to have him as a teacher and fortunate to have him for two years, he instructed us in not only mathematics, but in life as well and I carry many of those lessons with me in my day to day life as well. He will be truly missed and my condolences to his family. The education system and community have truly lose an incredible man and educator. Rest in peace Mr. Rachid

I had Mr. Rachid for trig last semester. He was a fantastic teacher who cared so deeply for all of us. No one failed our class because he simply wouldn´t let it happen. His famous sayings are laughed about by all his students, as he made us laugh every day. I think I speak for all of Grassfield when I say he will be missed.

Danny was a great friend. We enjoyed fishing offshore many times together. We played a lot of Racquetball together at the Downtown Athletic Club in Norfolk. I could never wear him down. He had more energy than anyone I've ever known. He will be missed!
