Daniel Paul Shockley, Sr was born February 18, 1934 in Hodge, MO and passed away on February 7, 2025 at the VA Hospital in Kansas City, MO. Mr. Shockley was the son of Daniel C. and Elnora F. Shockley (Belt).
He attended Hazel Hill Country School and graduated from 8th grade. He worked the next two years on farms, then worked at Dunhill Shirt Company for two years. While working there, he joined the Missouri National Guard and was honorably discharged in September of 1952. He then enlisted in the Navy and served 15 years, including one tour in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged from the Navy in September of 1967. He then worked maintenance in the Plastic Industry until March 1997 and retired as a Maintenance Supervisor from American Wilcon Plastics, Inc. in Orrick, MO. After that, he worked for 6 years as a volunteer at Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He lived just outside of Orrick for more than 50 years before relocating to Richmond in 2023. He was a life member of VFW post 4398 and was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 37 years Deanna Kay Shockley (Prewitt); two sisters Mary Bell Shockley; Marcile Fischer and her husband Donald; and one brother John L Shockley. He is survived by his longtime friend and companion Debbie Adkins; his son Floyd Shockley and his wife Shannon of Triangle, VA; his son Daniel P Shockley, Jr of Camden, MO; his daughter Kathy Wahlers of Corder, MO; his daughter Donna Stroble of Kansas City, KS; his brother Lloyd Shockley and his wife Paulette of Missouri City, MO; his brother Charles Shockley and his wife Adruth of Camden, MO. He was married three times. First to Connie Jo Lynn which ended in divorce, second to Delores Goodwin which ended in divorce, then to Deanna. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and many nieces and nephews.
Per his wishes, there will be a graveside service with military honors at Dover Cemetery in Dover, MO at 2 pm on Thursday, February 13, 2025. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for Memorial contributions to be given to the VFW: www.VFW.org/donate.
