James Holder, 78, of Buckner, Missouri passed away January 17, 2025 at Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence, Missouri. Visitation will be held 10-11 AM on Friday, January 31, 2025 at Hidden Valley Funeral Home in Richmond, 9502 Leathers Road, Richmond, Mo 64085. A funeral service will follow at 11 AM, then a graveside immediately following the service with Military Honors at New Hope Cemetery north of Hardin, Missouri.
James was born September 14, 1946 in Chillicothe, Missouri to Mary Matney, and was adopted at a young age to Emory and Jessie (Pollard) Holder. He graduated from William Chrisman High School in Independence, Missouri. After graduating high school he joined and served honorably in the US Army during Vietnam. He later finished boy scouts in Troop 82 as an Eagle Scout, and went on to be a Scout Master. James enjoyed fishing, reading, watching westerns and wrestling on TV. He bowled in a league, loved being around his animals, spending time with friends and family and teaching his grandson James about boy scouts. He was a master electrician, loved being an auctioneer, having yard sales and coaching little league baseball. He married his wife Mary (Schreckhise) Holder in 1995.
James was preceded in death by his adopted parents Emory and Jessie Holder, his mother Mary, 5 children, and a brother John.
He is survived by his wife Mary Holder of Buckner, son Jasen (Tasha) Holder of Rogersville, son Josh (Jennifer) Holder of Branson, step-daughter Mary Jo Cross of Buckner, step-daughter Carol Worley of Oak Grove, numerous nieces, nephews, a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, sister Retta (Clark) Hamilton of Farley, brother John (Janice) Knott of Marshall, sister Martha Sue Knott-Nicholson of Warrensburg, sister Jane McMakin of Lexington, JoAnn Holder Sanford of Lexington.
