Daniel Vincent Topel

Daniel, born on September 13, 1938, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, passed away on June 12, 2024. He was the second youngest of five siblings, growing up in a close-knit family. Throughout his life, Daniel regaled his children with tales of mischief from family farms visits, including the infamous cow-pie firecracker escapades.

In his pre-teen years, Daniel discovered a love for coin collecting. It all began when he realized he could earn a merit badge in Cub Scouts by pursuing this hobby. His paper route provided opportunities to spot rare coins among customers’ change, and he would negotiate with them to acquire these treasures. This passion stayed with him throughout his life, culminating in his becoming a full-fledged numismatist after selling his Drive-In restaurant.

Daniel’s love for music extended beyond coins. He fondly recalled the barbershop sound as a refreshing departure from the church music he sang during his grade school days. In high school, he immersed himself in chorus music and even learned the Charleston dance. Joining the Minneapolis barbershop chorus, The Commodores, and singing bass in the quartet, the Knights of Harmony, allowed him to share his passion for harmonious melodies with audiences across Minnesota.

Daniel’s legacy lives on through his family, his coin collections, and the memories shared by those who knew him. He will be dearly missed.

A celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday, June 18th at 12:00 PM at the White Pine Funeral chapel, 753 S 100 E in Logan.  A visitation will be held prior from 10:30-11:30 AM at the funeral home.
