Danny Aldous Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Jones & Casey Funeral Home - Salmon on May 13, 2022.
Danny Michael Aldous was born May 14, 1949 in Salmon, Idaho to Darrell Coles Aldous and Joyce Leone Moultrie Aldous. His birth certificate states he was born in "Salmon Hospital" which apparently was the name of the two story house that had been on the corner of Main and North Daisy.
Danny was the younger brother of Leslie.
Danny attended Salmon schools graduating in 1967.
When Danny was 19 years old, he joined the United States Navy. Danny enlisted because of his father, several uncles and his brother-in-law whom had served in various branches of the armed forces. He served active duty from November 1968 to September 1972. Danny was stationed at the U.S. Naval Base in San Diego, California, as well as Baltimore, Maryland, Norfolk, Virginia, and Vallejo, California. He served on the USS Mount Hood (AE-29) becoming a 3rd class engineman where he was a mechanic working on diesel and gas engine.
Danny also was on an ocean-going tugboat and towed the Flip, a research vessel. He had the adventure of going through the locks of the Panama Canal. He also was in the South China Sea for six months to supply vessels with ammunition for the Vietnam War. He was only there for 36 hours before heading back to the United States.
While stationed in San Diego, Danny met Mary Eva Tilton. The couple was married December 19, 1970. To this union two children were born. Dan Michael Aldous was born December 31, 1971 and Sinie Joyce Aldous was born August 7, 1974.
They were divorced June of 1983. Danny married twice more with both marriages ending in divorce.
After Danny was discharged from the Navy, he moved his family back to the Lemhi valley. He worked for the Forest Service seasonally for several years. He then worked for QB Corporation running a saw.
Danny worked 12 seasons at McMurdo Station in Antarctica operating heavy equipment. His primary job was to keep the runway clear so cargo planes that were bringing supplies could land. McMurdo is a United States research facility. While working at McMurdo Station he made many lasting friendships.
He then worked at Thompson Creek mine for several years driving haul trucks. When Thompson Creek mine starting downsizing, Danny went to work at a mine in Arizona.
In February 2018, he started to drive for Lemhi Ride. He really enjoyed that occupation because of the interaction of the persons riding the bus, especially the special needs children.
Some of his favorite activities were hunting, fishing, camping, and rafting on the Salmon River. He loved his dogs, they were family.
He is survived by his sister, Leslie (Fred) Walchli; daughter Sinie (Gerald) Wallace; son Dan Michael (Gwen) Aldous; grandchildren Mikayla Wallace, Malykhi Wallace; niece Andrea (Greg) Scott; nephews Raymond (Kathie) Walchli, Todd Walchli. As well as several great nieces and nephews.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, Joyce and Darrell Aldous. Grandparents, Margaret and Les Aldous; Frank and Keturah Moultrie.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 20, 2022 at 11:a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Stake Center at 400 S. Daisy. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service in the Relief Society Room.

Danny and I worked on the "Ice" for many seasons. I always called him "Senior" on the radio to make it look like he was older than me. He wasn't. We had fond memories of working together. I talked to him three weeks ago and we chatted about old times. Sad he isn't with us anymore. Photo: 2001 at the McMurdo pub with Carol Brandon
