Danny Keith Rainey, 69, of Mt. Vernon, Illinois passed away at 12:15 am November 2, 2025 at Axiom Gardens in Mt. Vernon. He was born September 10, 1956 in Mt. Vernon to the late Cletus and Gloria (Casada) Rainey.
Danny is survived by his daughters, Brittney Kent of Oregon and Jennifer Danielle Rainey of Kentucky; son, Joshua Keith Rainey of Kentucky; brothers and sisters, Kerry Rainey of Mt. Vernon, Illinois, Jerry Rainey and wife, Suzanne of Illinois, Sue Bean of Indiana, Barbara Ortgiesen and husband, Carl of Woodlawn, Illinois, Judith Lambert and husband, Brian of DuQuoin, Illinois, Maureena Burdin of Killeen, Texas. Rebecca Hester and husband, Thomas of Mt. Vernon, Illinois, Tammy Beard of Herrin, Illinois, Linda Martin and husband, Robert of Charleston, Illinois, and Mark Rainey and wife Elizabeth of Killeen, Texas, and Shawn Rainey of Vancouver, Oregon; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Danny was preceded in death by his nieces, Amy Burk and Sara Gutierrez; nephew, Jimmy Rainey; and sister, Cindy Jane Gagznos.
Danny studied at Mt. Vernon High School and John A. Logan College. He worked at Wal-Mart, Beck Bus, R.P. Lumber Company, and Boise Lumber Cascade Sawmill in Oregon. He learned how to build houses and did many upgrades for the family home. He was passionate about carpentry and enjoyed working on fixer uppers.
A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2025 at 3:00 PM at South Hickory Hill Cemetery in Mount Vernon with Mrs. Barbara Ortigiesen officiating.
