Brent Ray Stover, 64, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 8:19 am October 31, 2025 at his home. He was born November 7, 1960 in Mount Vernon to the late Jim Stover and Marjorie (Pasley) Schierbaum. Brent married Cynthia (Rose) Stover on November 12, 2004 and she survives.
In addition to his beloved wife, Brent is survived by his children, Serena Waite and husband, James of Woodlawn, Illinois, Sean Sweetin of Ina, Illinois, Shannon Sweetin of West Frankfort, Illinois, Brittany Brumley and husband, Andy of Alabama, and Briana Atnip and husband, Dane of New Minden, Illinois; grandchildren, Rory Whisenhunt, Peyton Murray, Hank Malick, Anna Malick, Gavin Mustread, Dylan Smith, Kaia Herring, Delcie Herring, Cecilia Herring, Liam Brumley, Hagen Brumley, and Stormie Grimes; sister, Denise Davis and husband, Bobby of Opdyke, Illinois; nephew, Tyler Davis; stepsiblings, Sharon McCormick and husband, Les, Jerry Schierbaum and wife, Shirley, Glenn Schierbaum and wife, Gena, and Ron Schierbaum and wife, Barb; and special aunt, Edie Edwards.
Brent was preceded in death by his parents and stepfather, Ben Schierbaum; son, Ethan Stover; and grandparents, Eula and Russell Pasley and Helen and Corney Stover.
Brent was a heavy equipment operator and owner/operator of Stover Excavating. He worked as a mechanic for W-G Motors in Mount Vernon. Brent dearly loved his family and friends, enjoyed fishing, and being outdoors. Cindy was the love of his life. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and care for him.
A Visitation will be held Friday, November 7, 2025 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Newell Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. A Funeral Service will be held Friday, November 7, 2025 at 11:00 am at Newell Funeral Home with Reverend Bud Storey officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn. Memorials may be made in Brent's honor to the Stover family, in care of Cindy Stover.
