Danny Dwight Sims was born September 13, 1954 to Darwin Sims and Ellen Marquerite (Beebe) Sims in Jefferson, Iowa. He graduated from Paton- Churdan High School then went on to Iowa Lakes Community College where he majored in Criminal Justice.
After college, Danny went into the Army where he served from 1972 to 1977 before being honorably discharged. Following his time in the service he started his careers. He was employed as a substance abuse counselor, Commitment counselor for Polk County, Vocational rehab and treatment director for Veterans. He loved helping people and didn't meet any strangers.
Danny was a big sports fan- ANY sport! His favorite sports were baseball and softball and he loved coaching youth sports. Danny was also a huge Hawkeyes fan!
Danny passed away May 29, 2022. He is preceded in death by parents, Darwin and Marguerite Sims; sister, Gwen Fitzpatrick and granddaughter, Zoey Shelton.
He is survived by his children, Ashley Sims, Hilary Sims, and Amy; siblings, Dorena Wilson, Betty Sue Hensen, Jodi Walker-Chandler; grandchildren, Brielle Shelton and Noelle Sims; friend and supervisor Dan Russell and his coworkers at the VA, along with a host of extended family and friends.
