Darlene Marlys Burnes, 92 years old, of Alexandria, MN, passed away on November 29th, 2024, surrounded by her loving family at Vivie Care Center in Alexandria.
Darlene was born on July 10th, 1932, in Erhard, MN, to Harold and Myrtle Hauge. She grew up in Fergus Falls, MN and graduated from Fergus Falls High School. After graduation, Darlene worked at National Food. It was there she caught the eye of a young bakery delivery man, Jim Burnes. They fell in love and married on July 26th, 1953. Together, they raised 4 children: Brad, Patti, Sharon, and Greg. In 1964, Jim and Darlene moved their family to Alexandria.
Darlene was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She cherished nothing more than spending time with family and loved ones. Throughout her years she was a Cub Scout den mother, a Sunday School teacher, and wonderful homemaker. She made the best meals and loved making everyone's favorites. Nobody could duplicate her cooking, or the love she put into it.
Darlene was a caregiver to her family and friends - and the one you would call when you were not feeling well, because she could always make you feel better. After Jim passed away, she found joy in serving others: coffee around the table with a neighbor, making and delivering sweet treats, being a listening ear to anyone who needed a friend. She was a treasure and will be greatly missed.
Darlene is survived by her children: Brad Burnes, Patti Burnes, Sharon Batcher, and Greg (Angie) Burnes; grandchildren: Jesse Grandbois, David Grandbois, Brianna (Mark) Freeman, Sarah (Mark) Zimmermann, Allie (Chris) Janssen, Ethan Tollefson, Olivia Tollefson, Ted Burnes, Gehrig Burnes, and Jack Burnes; great-grandchildren: Caleb Zimmermann, Jake Zimmermann, Jack Janssen, Lucy Zimmermann, Nolan Janssen, Sophia Freeman, and John Freeman; sisters: Elaine Sivertson and Cathie Fronning; sister-in-law, Jane Burnes. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jim Burnes; daughter-in-law, Debbie Burnes; grandson, Jimmie Burnes; and brother, Larry Hauge.
The family would like to thank the staff at Vivie Care Center and Vivie Hospice for the incredible care and support they gave Darlene and family, as well as Donna Kopischke from Calvary Lutheran for visiting Darlene throughout the years with treats and communion.
Memorial Services for Darlene will be held on Wednesday, December 4th, 2024, at Anderson Funeral Home at 11:00 AM, with a visitation one hour prior to services. Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Fergus Falls at a later date.
