Darrel Lee Chenoweth

RICHMOND IN.- Darrel Lee Chenoweth Sr., 82, passed away on October 19, 2024, while vacationing abroad. Born November 6, 1941, in Indianapolis, Indiana, he was the son of Norman Dale and Josephine Marie Chenoweth (Simons). He married Susan Kay Hollinger on September 14, 1963, and enjoyed fifty-five years of marriage preceding her death. After graduating from Whitewater High School, Darrel began his education at Kettering University, formerly General Motors Institute. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, and then furthered his education at Auburn University where he ultimately attained his Masters and PhD. Darrel was extremely proud of his Auburn "War Eagle" heritage. Darrel began his professional life as a faculty member at the University of Louisville where he worked from 1970-2007. During his tenure at the University, he served as Department Chairman and Associate Vice President for Research.Darrel had many passions in life including traveling, cars, and in recent years flying. He obtained his pilots license at the age of 71 and enjoyed sharing his passion for travel with family and friends. Darrel was a history enthusiast who understood the importance of preserving his familys ancestry beginning in Cornwall, England.Survivors include his life partner, Trudy Slaby Eissler; children, Nicole (Tony) Bolotnik, Crista (Brian) Chenoweth-Beracha, and Lee (Natalie) Chenoweth; grandchildren, Zhenya and Ruslan Bolotnik, Ian and Sophie Beracha, and Emma and Adler Chenoweth; great grandchild, Luka Kovalenko; sisters, Loretta (Darrell) Newton and Pamela (David) Hineman; sister-in-law, Jane (Steve) Hickey; and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 7, 2024, from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm, with a service to follow at 2:00 pm at Earlham Cemetery, Mausoleum Chapel at 1101 National Road West, Richmond, Indiana 47374. A reception will follow at the Forest Hills Country Club.In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer's Association.
