Mathews Funeral HomeThomas F. Borst, 87, of Albany, Georgia, died on December 29, 2025, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. A memorial service will be held at St. Patrick's Episcopal Church on Saturday, January 10, 2025 at 1:00 pm.
Mr. Borst was born July 13, 1938, in Grand Rapids, MI, to the late Donald Leroy Borst and Marion Ulrich Borst. He was preceded in death by his brother, Donald Ulrich Borst of Mobile, AL.
He was educated in Decatur, GA, Tampa, FL, and Flushing, MI. He played football, basketball, baseball, and ran track at Flushing High School. He graduated from Auburn University in 1960 with a B.S. in Mathematics. He was a member of the Theta Chi Fraternity. While at Auburn, he played ice hockey for the Birmingham, Alabama, Amateur Ice Hockey Association.
He will be remembered for his love of family, friends, his caring ways, his zest for life, and his unfailing sense of humor. He was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
He enjoyed the outdoors, dove/quail hunting, and fishing in the Gulf of Mexico. He was an active member of the Albany YMCA, where he played competitive basketball with the “Elbows for Lunch Bunch” and on the YMCA Albany, GA tennis team. He coached youth basketball teams ages 6-7 and ages 8-12. He loved Auburn University, traveling throughout the U.S.A., Europe, the Bahamas, and the Caribbean. But, most of all, he loved visiting his children, grandchildren, nephews, and niece; they were his greatest source of pride and joy.
Survivors include: Gail Allen of Winter Garden, FL, loving girlfriend and soulmate. Son, Thomas F. Borst, Jr., and wife Lisa of Athens, GA. Three grandchildren, Madeline (Davis) Heric (great granddaughter Olivia), Caroline (Austin) Petrie, and Thomas F. Borst III. Son, William Ulrich Borst of Fort Collins, CO., and granddaughter, Anna Borst. Daughter, Rebecca Borst of Morrow, GA. Son, Beau Borst of Roswell, GA. Nephew, Donald W. Borst, and wife Laurie of Madison, AL, and their children, Taylor and Garrett. Nephew Todd (Kat) Borst of Northport, AL, and his children, Carter and Maggie. Niece, Candice Walsworth (Willie) of Fairhope, AL, and their children, Ashley, Telly, Jessie, and Adam.
