Darrel Moudy, age 65, of Independence, Missouri lost his battle with cancer. He chose to leave this world on his terms, surrounded by loved ones on August 18, 2025.
Darrel was born on January 31, 1960 as the second son to Carl and Elaine Moudy. He spent his youth in Marceline, Missouri. He was involved in baseball and wrestling, passions that remained in his heart throughout his life. Darrel spent his career operating and maintaining printing press machines.
He had a deep love for fishing and was a devoted sports enthusiast, cheering passionately for his beloved Kansas City Chiefs and Royals. A dedicated NASCAR fan as well, he found great joy in the thrill of the sport. His commitment to the advocacy of muscular dystrophy brought him meaningful opportunities to connect with family and friends at countless charity events hosted by the teams he loved most.
Although his body has left this world, the mark he left will remain in the memories of all who knew him. He will be remembered for his strength, wisdom, stubbornness, and even more so for his unwavering love.
Darrel was preceded in death by his soulmate and wife Valerie Booth, his parents Carl & Elaine Moudy, and his son Austin Booth.
Survivors include daughter Chasity Moudy, son Jeremy Moudy, daughter Michelle Stock and future son-in-law Anthony Abbott; grandchildren Bradley Anderson, Jacob Anderson, Owen Stock, Isabella Moudy, Isaiah Moudy, Matthew Rocha, Gabe Rocha, Oliver Stock, and one great grandson, Grayson Anderson; brother and sister-in-law Rick and Geneva Moudy, sister and brother-in-law Karla and Aaron Ernst, and brother and sister-in-law Doug and Robin Moudy. He will also be dearly missed by his future granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Kelsie and Brenon Crenshaw, and their son, Callahan Crenshaw.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of NorthCare Hospice House for their compassionate care and kindness.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to either of the following charities that Darrel held close to his heart:
The Make-A-Wish Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to granting wishes for children diagnosed with critical illnesses. www.wish.org
Neuromuscular Access Initiative (NAI), a non-profit organization dedicated to creating a community of empowerment and belonging for children and young adults with neuromuscular diseases. After our local MDA summer camp was discontinued, NAI was formed by a group of counselors dedicated to keeping a local camp for our children/young adults. Any of the counselors and campers will tell you that Camp Milton is "the best week of the year" for all of them. www.nainitiative.com
A celebration of life will be held at a family residence on Saturday, October 11th, 2025 from 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm (open house). Contact Michelle Stock (Michelle Renee on Facebook) or Chasity Moudy via Facebook Messenger for the address.
