"John" Darryl Lynn Whetman, 66 years of age, returned home to his Heavenly Father on April 7, 2022 with his two daughters at his bedside.
John was born on June 15th 1955 in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Parley and Virginia Whetman. John was raised in Bountiful, Utah and the second to the youngest of 7 children.
John proudly graduated from Bountiful High school in 1973. John had an ongoing joke that he liked to say, "only the best people graduate from Bountiful High." He often liked to poke fun at people's math skills by saying, "Oh you must not have gone to Bountiful High!"
John faithfully served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Seattle, Washington from 1976-1978. John led the mission in baptisms and later became a Zone Leader in his area. He held many callings for the church in his life but two of his favorites were the finance clerk and Sunday school teacher for the young men and women.
John married his eternal sweetheart, Diana Bunderson June 3rd, 1983 in the Logan temple. John was the father to two girls: Kristen (Whetman) Christensen and Michelle (Whetman) Gallegos.
John was a successful car salesman, sales manager, and finance manager for multiple car dealerships throughout his lifetime. John was known at each dealership for his witty humor and clever sarcastic remarks.
John was an avid BYU football fan and always dreamed of his grandsons becoming BYU football players one day. John also enjoyed attending car auctions, playing golf, and above all, spending time with his 6 grandchildren.
John is remembered by his friends as being loyal and true. They described him as someone who would "jump in with both feet" with whatever he believed in or loved. John was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. John served in many callings throughout his life. Among his favorite callings was his calling to teach Sunday School to the youth. He had a vast knowledge of the gospel and a passion for sharing it with others.
John is preceded in death by his wife, Diana Bunderson, his parents Parley and Virginia Whetman, his sister Cheryl, and his brothers Randall "Randy", Gail "Sam", and Paul.
John is survived by his two daughters Kristen (Casey) Christensen, Michelle (Casey) Gallegos, and his 6 grandchildren: Claire, Cayson, Corbin, Braxton, Ethan, and Emmett, his sister Maureen (Steve) Lindsay, and brother Ron (Nancy) Whetman.
Kristen and Michelle would like to thank the staff of the Medical-Oncology unit at Intermountain Medical Center in Murray for their loving care of their Father in his last days on this earth.
Graveside services will be Thursday, April 14, 2022, 10:00 a.m., Tremonton Riverview Cemetery, 175 E. 1200 S. Elwood, Utah.

I am so sorry to know of John's passing. The Whetmans were my neighbors in Bountiful where I still reside. John and my son, Bill were close friends when they were growing up.Bill spent many hours in the Whetman home and John was often in ours. I saw John grow up,go on a mission as a shy and a little unsure of himself. I hardly recognized the smiling, confident, handsome young man who came to our home after his return. John was a kind, hard working and respectful young boy with a great sense of humor. I am truly saddened to know of his passing. God bless and comfort you.
