Daryl James Sterling

"I have fought the good fight, I have finished my course. I have

kept the faith." 2 Timothy 4:7

On Sunday, January 18, 2026 God and his angel welcomed Daryl James Sterling to his

heavenly home. Daryl James Sterling was born to the union of the late Josh Sterling Jr. and

Betty L. Sterling at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Paincourtville, LA. Daryl accepted Christ at

an early age and was baptized by the late Rev. Mansfield Lawson.

While life had many changes, Daryl relocated to Sioux City, Iowa, but he knew he still

needed a church home. God was the center of his life. He became a member of Mt. Zion

Baptist Church of Sioux City, Iowa under the leadership of Rev. Robert Laudedal until his

health began to fail. Daryl was rooted and grounded in love, compassion, and most of all

knowing Jesus was his present help in times of trouble. He needed a personal Savior to

make life worth living.

Daryl was a proud graduate of Donaldsonville High School class of 1984. Daryl also

attended University of Louisiana of Lafayette, Louisiana. Daryl was a bricklayer and was

very confident in his work. Daryl took pride in every project he did. Daryl was

affectionally called "The Goat" by his employer and co-workers, and his work spoke for

itself.

He leaves to cherish his fond memories, his mother, Betty L. Sterling of Donaldsonville,

LA, daughter, Bianka August, of Gonzales, LA, son Kintrelle James Sterling, of Lincoln,

NB, 2 grandchildren, Brileigh A. Lee, Christopher C. Lee, Jr. of Gonzales, LA, 1 brother,

Darnell (Markeyetta) Sterling Sr. of Donaldsonville, LA, two sisters, whom Daryl was

reared with, Loretta Smith of Thibodeaux, LA, Dana (Andre) Ferguson, of Baton Rouge,

LA, three aunts, Lillie M. Butler of Covington, LA, Norma Lewis of Darrow, LA, and Rose

Lewis of Baton Rouge, LA, devoted friends LaBelle Demby and family, Dwayne Levy, Sr.,

Kimberly Rucker and Family of Sioux City, IA, along with a host of nieces, nephews,

cousins, and friends.

Daryl is preceded in death by his father, Josh Sterling, Jr. brother Josh Sterling, III,

maternal grandparents, Walter Lewis and Jeanette B. Lewis, paternal grandmother Irene L.

Sterling and paternal grandfather, Josh Sterling, Sr.
