David Alfredson Obituary

David A. Alfredson went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, November 17, 2022 following a long journey with Parkinsonism. David was born on July 20, 1945 in Rockford, the son of Gunnard and Elizabeth (Deuel) Alfredson. He married the love of his life, Jean Mincemoyer on December 4, 1983. "Duck" retired as a detective after 30 years on the Rockford Police Dept. He served 12 years with the Winnebago Co. Sheriff's Dept. as a Field Monitor and as Court House Security. David was a member of PBPA and served many years as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Rockford Municipal Employees Credit Union. He was also involved in many church activities over the years.
David loved the outdoors. He enjoyed the time spent on the water fishing sometimes even catching! Whether on the guy's yearly fishing trips or with his wife, Jean, he enjoyed the beauty of God's creation while catching some very nice bass. For most of his life he was a camper; including 25 years on a permanent site in WI. For many years Dave enjoyed the many varieties of birds that visited his feeders, as well as the furry critters. He was the #1 spotter of coyote and deer in his backyard. In more recent years he took up wood turning and could be found thoroughly enjoying himself in his workshop. A large number of the pens David turned were included in shipments of donated, hand turned pens being sent to troops in Iraq. His favorite way to relax the last few years was resting in his recliner with Jean next to him, his fur baby curled up on his lap, watching the outdoors for whatever wildlife might happen to wander by.
Survived by his dear wife, Jean; brother, Leonard; niece, Tracy (Patrick) Atagi and their children, Jacob & Elizabeth; cousin, Carol Morris; feline best friend, Murphy; children, Kassandra, Melissa, Melinda, Trisha, and David; and grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Predeceased by his parents; Leonard's wife, Patricia Alfredson; and great-grandson, Huntley. A special thank you to OSF Hospice and especially Nurse Carrie and Chaplain Ed, for the excellent care and compassion shown to us through out this difficult time. Thank you to Jackie Hatcher for all her wonderful care and love as she grew to be a special part of our family.
Dave was richly blessed by God and looked forward to spending eternity in Heaven. For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boost. Ephesians 2:8-9

To Mrs Alfredson, I was searching for a friend when your husband David came up. I am very impressed by his love for the Lord. Having the Lord as our Savior is the most important decision in our lives. May you and your family have the peace of God which surpasses all understanding here on earth. I pray that when it is my turn to depart I can meet David and do some fishing.
Sincerely, James
