David Dale Awtry, 81 of Dakota Dunes, South Dakota passed away in his home July 19, 2024 after a five year battle with cancer.
David is survived by his wife Kathleen; daughters: Kirstin and Gary Wuebker of Milford, Iowa and daughter Samantha, Brooke and Kelly Smejkal of Ankeny, Iowa and daughter Brylee, and Neely Awtry of Wilmington, Delaware and daughter Nia Toscano; siblings: Ann and Dan Kem of Clermont, Florida and Jon and Jane of Overland Park, Kansas.
David was born June 11, 1943 in Lake City, Iowa to Dale and Jean Awtry. He graduated from Lake City High School in 1961 and attended Buena Vista College until graduation in 1965. After graduation he joined the Army. Before being stationed in Fort Greely, Alaska, David and Kathleen were united in marriage July 30, 1966 in Royal, Iowa. They lived in Alaska for 18 months.
After David’s discharge from the Army he pursued a career in banking. David and Kathy made their home in Milford, Iowa for 15 years before relocating to Sioux City, Iowa where David worked at Gateway until his retirement.
The family would like to send our deepest gratitude to the doctors and staff at June E. Nylen Cancer Center and Hospice of Siouxland. They provided David with comfort in the days prior his death.
David is preceded in death by his parents, Dale and Jean, his brother, Tom, and his granddaughter, Tori Wuebker.
