Thomas McVay Awtry

Thomas McVay Awtry, 77, met his Lord Jesus on July 27, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. Tom fought cancer for 4 ½ years. A Memorial Service will be 10 am Tuesday, August 1st at Iles Westover Chapel. A 3 pm graveside service will follow at Lake City Cemetery.
Tom was born December 8, 1945 in Lake City, Iowa to Dale and Jean (McVay) Awtry. He received his Bachelor's Degree from Simpson College in 1968 and began his career in banking. He worked for the State of Iowa as a Bank Examiner working in the Des Moines, LeMars, and Mason City territories. He became President of banks in Fonda, Rock Valley, and Ottumwa, Iowa before retiring in 2012 when he moved to Urbandale. Tom was involved and served in a number of charitable organizations throughout his career.
Tom met his wife, Sue Ann, at Simpson College and they were married on August 26, 1967. They spent 56 years working, raising a family and living life. From that marriage three children were welcomed into the world, Todd Michael, Stacey Ann and Jill Suzanne.
Tom enjoyed summers with his family at their lake home, boating, fishing trips to Canada, and golfing. He was also a huge Hawkeye fan!
Preceding him in death were his parents. Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Sue; children: Todd (Renee) Awtry of Tyrone, GA, Stacey (Adam) Michaelson of Anaheim Hills, CA; Jill (John) Dewey of Urbandale; 7 grandchildren: Chloe (Caleb) Beverly, Eli DeRoon, Jackson and Addison Awtry, Liam Coffman, Archer and Ellasyn Dewey; siblings: David (Kathy) Awtry of North Sioux City, SD; Ann (Dan) Kem of Clermont, FL; Jon (Jane) Awtry of Overland Park, KS; brother in law, Bill (Linda) Morton of Morton, IL; many nieces and nephews.
