David Lee Beall, 88, passed away on February 28, 2025, in Wilmington, North Carolina. He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Elizabeth Carmilla Beall, his children David Brian Beall (Laurel), Leanne Marie Harmon (Pat) and John Alexander Beall (Amy). He leaves eight grandchildren: Patrick Harmon (Meg) and Michelle Lea Hazlett (Mike); Benjamin, David, Jamie, Carrie Hon (Kaden), Garrison and Ellie Beall, as well as four great grandchildren: Madison and Michael Hazlett and Ali and Hope Harmon.
He was devoted to his sweetheart, Lizzy, and was her primary caregiver later in their lives together. Born in Washington, DC, he was employed as a cartographer at the Geological Survey in Virginia. But much of what he loved in his life originated in Maryland, where he lived for most of his life. He was a devoted fan of the sports teams at the University of Maryland and was seldom seen without a cap, shirt or jacket featuring the Terrapin. He loved gardening and fishing, but the thing he enjoyed most was crabbing. Most of his friends and family have fond memories of crabbing expeditions, crab feasts and parties that included many croquet tournaments in his back yard.
He was personable and made friends easily and was a favorite at the businesses and offices he patronized. He never met a stranger he wouldn't befriend, and had a knack for making people smile and laugh. He loved his family, and his face lit up whenever his grandchildren and great grandchildren called or visited.
A Memorial Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2025 at Wilmington Funeral and Cremation located at 1535 S. 41st Street, Wilmington, NC 28403 from 3-5 pm. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of David, please visit our floral store.
