David Bowman Obituary

David is survived by cousins, Anne Cofer Connell (Charles), Al Cofer (Debbie), Sammy Fields (Deborah), Doug Fields; dear friends, Dave Ayers, Carla Scarlett; as well as a host of family and friends.
David was a 1971 graduate of Central Gwinnett High School and the University of Georgia (Go Dawgs!). David's lifelong passion and professional career was dedicated to the game of golf. He served as the PGA professional at Summit Chase, Sugar Hill and Cedar Lake golf courses. It was Cedar Lake where he excelled as the teaching professional and tournament manager, and could assist regular, junior and adaptive golfers.
Special gratitude to Agape Hospice (Kelsey, Kera, Erica) for the care and love shown to David. Also, the staff at Ashton Manor assisted living for the care provided for the last year and one half.
A graveside celebration will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2025 at 2:00PM at Buford City Cemetery in Buford, GA for family and friends.
In true "DB" fashion, dress as he would!

The CGHS Class of 1971 wishes to share and honor David Bowman with an achievement he obtained as a senior "Black Knight" football player. During the November 6, 1970 Friday night name against Roswell, David exceeded all previous CGHS individual players, achieving 219 Receiving Yards in a game according to GHSFHA online records. He held that school record for 41 years, with only three other CGHS players bypassing his record in the past 55 years!
Margaret Holt Mathis remembers when David ran back after making the catch, the play that contributed to the bulk of his yards in that game. David´s Dad, Larry, was so excited, he was running on the track by the fence where the cheerleaders were cheering, and almost knocked them down. Larry ran the whole way to the end zone with David. Great memory to share in honor of our beloved classmate, David Bowman.
