Rufus Eugene Miller

Rufus E. Miller, age 80, of Toccoa, GA passed away on Wednesday, August 27, 2025. He was preceded in death by parents, Horace and Valda Miller; granddaughters, Jessica Vincent and Lila Reed; brothers-in-law, Buster Comerford and James Harvey. Rufus is survived by his children's mother, Gloria Miller of Lawrenceville, GA; children, Robert (Paula) Miller of Carnesville, GA and Rachel (Chad) Reed of Grayson, GA; grandchildren, Kaitlyn Vincent, Andrew Miller, Kylie Miller, Laina Reed, Eli Reed; sisters, Margaret Comerford of Bainbridge, GA and Jan Harvey of Asheville, NC; and nieces, nephews, and cousins. Rufus was born on October 8, 1944 in Colquitt, GA. He grew up on a farm and his first job was picking cotton. He was a 1962 graduate of Miller County High School, where he was the Co-Captain of the football team and a member of FFA and 4H. During his college years, he worked at the GM plant in Atlanta. He received a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Georgia in 1966. After college, he started his career in computer programming at Coats & Clark and worked there until 1987. Rufus also earned a Master's Degree from Georgia State University in 1971. Rufus worked at American Software from 1987 until he retired in 2010. Rufus was of the Baptist faith and very involved in church activities throughout his life. He enjoyed traveling and photography, and loved spending time with his family. He was an avid Georgia Bulldog fan but God and family were Number 1 to him. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, September 4, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at Suwanee Methodist Church with Dr. Christopher Alexander officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, September 3 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Robert Eugene Miller Supplemental Needs Trust, c/o Rachel Reed, 430 Herring Rd, Grayson, GA 30017 in memory of Rufus Miller.
