Kent Sprague Obituary

Edward Kenton Sprague, aged 77 of Lawrenceville, Ga passed away on August 15th 2025. He is preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy Sprague and Edward C. Sprague. He is survived by his daughter, Kelly Goldson-Vaas and son-in-law Byron Vaas; his sister Arden Scranton and brother-in-law Charles Scranton, as well as his nieces and nephew: Sarah, Gretchen, and David Scranton.

Edward, who liked to be called Kent, was born in Long Island, New York in August of 1948. He attended Bucknelll University and went on the receive his Master's degree in geology at the University of Georgia. He belonged to Gracepointe Church of the Nazarene for over 30 years. He worked at H.B. Fuller as a chemist for decades until he retired in 2019. Kent had a curious, philosophical mind - he loved a friendly debate, reading mystery novels, and studying the Bible. In his spare time he liked to feed neighborhood stray cats and spoil his kitty, Judah.

Kent had an incredibly compassionate and generous nature, which led him to take an interest in caring for teenagers in trouble. Over the years, he gave his time volunteering at his church's youth group and local homeless shelters. He also supported struggling families with rides to church, food, and whatever else they needed. Many local teens who came from troubled home lives see him as a father-figure and thank him for changing their lives. Kent was a man who unofficially adopted every broken child he met, and many of them have grown up to live healthy lives because of him. He wholeheartedly believed in Jesus, and showed God's love to those around him selflessly and beautifully. The span and influence of his great life stretches far and wide. There will be a memorial service held for Kent at Gracepointe Church of the Nazarene on Sunday, August 31st at 2pm.

Condolences may be sent or viewed at www.wagesfuneralhome.com. Tom M. Wages Funeral Service, 120 Scenic Hwy., Lawrenceville, GA 30046 (770-963-2411) – Lawrenceville Chapel has been entrusted with the arrangements.
