Our beloved Scherry Sprague of Willis, Texas passed away after a brief illness on August 11, 2025, at the age of eighty-two (82). She was born in the Texas panhandle in Shamrock. Her mother passed away when Scherry was 5 years old. Her father AC Brown remarried Cora Brown who raised Scherry and her older sister, Glenda (Rue) Burgin. The girls remained remarkably close throughout their lives and lived as neighbors for many years. Scherry married Jimmy Carl Bond from Shamrock and later moved to Houston to raise their four (4) boys until they separated. Scherry later married Robert (Bob) M. Sprague, whom she often called her "knight in shining armor." They blended their families and loved each other for 35 years until his death on July 15, 2013. Together, Scherry and Bob, enjoyed seven (7) sons, ten (10) grandchildren and ten (10) great grandchildren. Scherry's life was centered on her home, her family, and her friends. She especially loved family traditions and made sure everything in her home was "perfect." She lived her faith and felt blessed with her abundance – always serving plenty to eat before we gathered for grace. Her granddaughters often wore her kitchen aprons to bake Scherry's famous sugar cookies, while everyone got to eat them. In her home, it was evident she had a talent for entertaining, decorating and sharing a great bargain story. She found happiness in life even when it could be challenging, and her beautiful smile simply warmed a room. In recent years, Scherry lived with her son Mark and delighted in playing bridge. She became a master bridge player, achieving Bronze Life Master with 829 points. Her simple joy was to sit and chat over coffee, dessert, or a glass of wine. Scherry leaves behind her love, the imprint of that beautiful smile, and many precious memories. Scherry will be forever loved and missed.

Earlier today

My condolences to Scherry's family. I did not know Scherry long or well as we became acquainted through the Bridge Club of Houston just a few years ago. What I can say is that she was a delight to be around at the bridge table or the snack room. Bright and happy smile to always set a cheerful tone. We will miss her.

Yesterday

Bill & I send our love and condolences to the Sprague family on your sudden loss! Bill was Scherry's mentor at the bridge club when she first started playing there & he so enjoyed playing bridge with her! I considered Scherry my "southern belle" friend as she truly did represent everything gracious! She also made the best peanut brittle EVER, which she would gift to us at Chritmas! We already miss her beautiful smile!
