David D. "Dave" Brokus, age 65, of Dubuque, passed away at 9:55 a.m., on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at his home surrounded by his family. To celebrate Dave's life, family and friends may visit from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m., on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday at Behr Funeral Home. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery.
Dave was born on February 22, 1959, in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of William and Ruth (Hudson) Brokus.
Dave attended Dubuque Senior High School. He was self employed as a scrap metal buyer and also worked at Steel Mart for a time. Dave was known to try his luck at the local casino and enjoyed going to watch car races. He liked being in the great outdoors and often went hunting and fishing. Dave especially enjoyed spending time with his family, and getting the nieces and nephews "riled up" was his specialty. Dave was one of a kind, and we will miss him more than words can say.

Diane Kelly, Dubuque, IA,
Donna Brokus, Dubuque, IA
and Peggy (Shawn) Thomas Sr., Dubuque, IA;
a step-daughter,
Michelle Harrington, Dubuque, IA;
a step-granddaughter,
Kevanna Harrington, Dubuque, IA;
and several nieces and nephews.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents; 4 brothers, William Jr., John (Theresa), Tommy, and Bobby Brokus; 2 sisters, Rita Friebel and RuthAnn Brokus; a brother-in-law, Paul Kelly; and a niece, Kimberly Carner.
Dave's family would like to thank his niece, Brandy Lenz, and the staff of Hospice of Dubuque, for the wonderful care they have provided for Dave these past months. Also a special thanks to Dave's brother, Jim, whom Dave resided with for 25 years.
