John J. Hammel, 63, of Dubuque, IA passed away on August 15, 2025, at home surrounded by his family.

Visitation for John will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Friday, August 22, 2025, at Leonard Funeral Home and Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Rd. Dubuque. A funeral service will begin at 4:00 p.m. with Rev. Dianne Grace officiating. Entombment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery.

John was born on May 25, 1962, in Dubuque, the son of John and Ethel (Bowden) Hammel. He married Tammy Trowbridge on August 8, 2009, at Eagle Point Park in Dubuque. John worked for Eagle Country Market where he was a Meat Cutter until his retirement.

John was a friend to many and will be missed by all who knew him. He was an avid Green Bay Packer fan. The family invites anyone attending John's services to where Packer attire in honor of John.

John is survived by his wife, Tammy; brothers, Ken Hammel of Dubuque and Gary (Tami) Hammel of Zwingle; sisters, Karen (Mike) Blatz, of St. Catherine, Beth (Bud) Weydert, of Cameron, MO, Lisa Eubanks, of Dubuque, and Sharon (Terry) McAllister, of Washington, IA; siblings-in-law, Fudd Trowbridge, Terry (Ellis) Schwartz, Roger Trowbridge, Jr., and Troy and Teresa Sparks.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother, John Thomas; sister, Mary Jo Hammel, his in-laws; a niece, Stephanie Sherwood and a nephew Dylan Sparks.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Hospice of Dubuque and Dianne Grace for their wonderful care and guidance through this difficult time.
