James Anderton, 90, of Dubuque, IA, passed away Wednesday August 20, 2025, surrounded by family.

A visitation will be held Sunday August 24, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory 2595 Rockdale Road. A wake service will follow at 12:00 p.m. Burial will take place in Union Cemetery Maquoketa, Iowa at a later date.

Jim was born January 24, 1935, in Levasy, MO., the son of James and Leona (Hughes) Anderton. He served in the United States Army from 1959 to 1963. Jim married Olive "Ollie" Boyington on February 25, 1961.

He worked as a tool and die maker at Vulcan Tool in Dubuque and Progressive Tool in Waterloo. Jim was very active in the Maquoketa United Methodist Church in whatever capacity they needed help. Jim was a hard worker, he loved to farm on the side, he loved horses, gardening, music, dancing, playing cards and most of all spending time with his family.

He is survived by his daughters; Lee Ann Kuhle, Wanda (Mike) Meagher, Lori (Laura Taylor) Hollingshead, and Rebecca Formenti; grandchildren Elizabeth, Christopher, Tess, Alex, Joshua, Nicholas, Bradley, Stephen, Michael, Spencer, Alec, Christian, and Gavin; great grandchildren Megan, Kendyl, Jacob, Liam, Hayden, Corbin, Porter, Morgan, Isabelle, Olivia, Emma, Madison, Charlotte, Jamysen, Bindi, and Oaklynn; sisters Carol Heman and Alice Heman.

Jim is preceded in death by his wife, Oille Anderton, his parents, granddaughter Meagan Hollingshead, great grandson Jack Hollingshead, brother Tom Anderton, and sister Helen Tilley.

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established.
