David E. Cheek, a beloved husband, stepfather, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on January 28, 2026, in Newport News, Virginia, at the age of 70. Born on September 29, 1955, in Petersburg, Virginia, David lived a life full of love, creativity, and adventure.

David was a graduate of Newport News High School, where he began to cultivate his lifelong interests in drawing and writing poetry. His artistic talents were a source of joy and inspiration to those around him. In his retirement, David found happiness in taking spontaneous mini vacations with his cherished wife, Janet, creating countless memories filled with laughter and love.

A devoted fan of the Washington Redskins, David enjoyed watching games and cheering for his favorite team. His passion for sports was matched only by his dedication to his family, whom he loved deeply.

David is preceded in death by his father, Richard Cheek Sr., his mother, Shirley Cheek, and his brother, Jimmy Cheek. He is survived by his loving wife, Janet Cheek; his stepdaughter, Jessica Crumpler; his adored granddaughter, Kyleigh "Tweety Bird"; and his brother, Richard Cheek Jr., and his wife, Tammy.

David's warmth, humor, and kindness will be dearly missed by all who knew him. His legacy of love and creativity will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
