David J. Chisler, age 65, passed away unexpectedly on March 18, 2025. He was born on April 09, 1959, to John and Frances (Adelman) Chisler in Hartville, Ohio. David was a 1977 Graduate of Marlington High School.
David was a YMCA youth basketball coach in Canton South, and he was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Canton. David retired from UPS after 33 years. He was well-known as a tinkerer, and though he retired from his machinist career of 12 years, he never stopped working on his beloved cars. From fixing up classics to fitting a snow plow onto his truck, he always had a project on his mind. He would travel annually to Charlotte, North Carolina with his buddies for car swap meets, and his family could always count on him to drive by and harass them. Some of David’s favorite pastimes included having breakfast at Portage Lakes and spending the day exploring, and listening to the tribute bands at Lock 3 in Akron every Friday night. David’s need to talk to anybody and everybody made him friends everywhere he went. He always had something to say, and his booming voice could be heard over any crowd.
David is preceded in death by his parents, John and Frances Chisler.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 41 years, Janette Chisler; sons, David, Douglas (Kelley Harding), and Drew (Kristen Tierney); siblings, Doris Chisler, Fred (Janet) Chisler, Kathy (Jesus) Dominquez, Carolyn Schaefer, and Julie Moneypenny; numerous nieces and nephews.
