David Lee Conklin, 86, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 22, 2026, in Comstock Park, Michigan, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on September 7, 1939, in Battle Creek, Michigan, David was the son of Jasper and Esther (Shaw) Conklin.
David’s life was marked by a dedication to education and service. He graduated from Lakeview High School in Battle Creek in 1957, and went on to earn his degree from Western Michigan University in 1961. His passion for justice and the law led him to the University of Michigan Law School, where he graduated in 1971. David practiced law for an impressive 52 years, leaving a lasting impact on his profession and community.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, David served his country with honor as a member of the Michigan National Guard and the Michigan Air National Guard for six years. His commitment to service extended beyond his career and military tenure into every aspect of his life.
David was an avid history enthusiast who found joy in exploring the past and sharing his knowledge with others. He also had a deep love for gardening and flowers, finding peace and fulfillment in nurturing beauty from the earth.
David is survived by his devoted wife of 34 years, Lana (Wos) Conklin; his children, Deb (Dave) May, Michael (Christina) Conklin, Renee (Ron) Kozal, Jeff (Tricia) Patterson, Tina (Mike) Aldrich, and Brian (Tiffany) Patterson; as well as his cherished grandchildren, Brandon (Amanda) Aldrich, Justin (Liz) Aldrich, Kyle (fiancée Abbey) Bixler, Ryan (Amanda) Patterson, Josh (Erika) Patterson, Danielle (Jesse) Stamann, Alexis Patterson, Christian Patterson, Colin (Johanna) May, Spencer (Julia) May, Christian Kozal, Ryan Conklin, and Matthew Conklin. He was also blessed with 13 great-grandchildren who brought him immense joy.
He was preceded in death by his parents Jasper and Esther Conklin.
David’s faith was central to his life. As he passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus Christ, his Lord and Savior, he left behind a legacy of love and devotion that will be treasured by all who knew him.
May David’s memory bring comfort to those who loved him and inspire others to live with the same dedication to family, faith, and service that defined his remarkable life.
Visitation will take place on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, from 04:00 PM until 07:00 PM at Beuschel Funeral Home, 5018 Alpine Avenue NW, Comstock Park, MI. Visitation will continue on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 1200 Alpine Church Road NW, Comstock Park, from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM, with Mass of Christian Burial being celebrated at 11:00 AM with Rev. Chris Rouech officiating. David will be laid to rest at Holy Cross Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to Faith Hospice.
