David E. Cox Jr., of Pequannock, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2025. He was born on February 7, 1953 in El Paso, Texas. David dedicated his life to family, faith, and his career in environmental engineering.
He pursued higher education with distinction, earning a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Biology from Rutgers University in 1975 and later obtaining a Master of Science in Environmental Engineering from the New Jersey Institute of Technology in 1983. His career culminated in a 25-year tenure as a Senior Applications Engineer at Bionomic Industries in Mahwah, New Jersey, before his recent retirement.
David was deeply involved in his faith community. As an active member of Montville First Reformed Church, he served for many years on the Consistory as an Elder and participated in various church activities. Among these, his favorite was the outdoor nativity, where he took great joy in portraying a shepherd.
He is survived by his children: Susan Lawrence and her husband Todd, Melissa Schneider and her husband Chuck, and David Cox and his wife Brett; and grandchildren: Madison and Alex Schneider, Cooper and Avery Lawrence, and Leah and Luke Cox. David is also survived by his former wife, Patricia DeSantis, and his brother, Tym Cox and his wife Sonja. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Rebecca Cox; his father, David E. Cox Sr., and his wife Adele; his mother, Peggy Cox (Horst); and his brother, Robert Cox.
A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, May 24th at 10:30am, at Montville First Reformed Church (9 Church Lane, Montville, NJ 07045).
David's legacy of faith, love for family, and dedication to his career will be cherished by all who knew him.

David and I arranged to meet on Long Island in 2008 at the home of my stepson. When my grandmother Leah Cox Hoffman died, in 1984, we lost contact with her side of the family. It was great to meet David and spend a wonderful afternoon catching up.

Dave was a good friend of many years. A wonderful person who will truly be missed by all who had the privilege to know him. We had many good years working together, hunting together and just enjoying life. Rest in peace Dave, you brought joy to this friend and many more.
