David Matthew Currie, 43, passed away unexpectedly at home, April 4, 2024, in Chicago's East Lakeview neighborhood.
Born in Galesburg, IL, David graduated from Galesburg High School and Augustana College, where he played on the tennis team. He worked as a real estate agent but his great joys in life were spending time with his family, fishing, hunting, and following the Chicago Cubs.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents Arthur and Ruth Currie and Howard and Olive Bertram.
David enjoyed memorable fishing trips to the Yellowknife area in Northwest Territories of Canada with his father, brother, and nephew. He was proud to be present when his eldest nephew shot his first deer. He also enjoyed family vacations to Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Florida.
David was generous and kind. He was a great helper, and had a fantastic sense of humor. He will be missed by all who were lucky enough to have known him.
Beloved son of Dr. Robert Edward Currie and Susan Kay Currie (nee Bertram) of Galesburg.
Loving brother of John Howard (Lindsay) Currie of Chicago's Ravenswood neighborhood.
Adored and devoted "Uncle Dave" of Robert "Rob", Benjamin, and Ella Currie.
A celebration of David's life is being held Sunday, May 26th from 1-3 p.m. at Soangetaha Country Club, 238 N Soangetaha Rd, Galesburg, IL 61401, (309) 342-6104.

David and I grew up together. Our parents are great friends! The parents would all play cards and hang out on holidays which means us kids were together a lot. The Currie boys were kind. I remember seeing all the fish they would catch and display in their home. I remember David letting us play on his video games and sharing his space with us. I remember David playing ping pong with us in the basement and not being mad when we weren´t even very good at it. We would always spend the 4th of July at the Curries. We would play hide and seek and other outdoor games and watch the fireworks in their back yard. I remember David´s million dollar smile. His smile was larger than life. It´s been several years back the last time I saw him. We hugged and laughed and cried that day together. I remember his solid love for the CUBS and his family. You will be so deeply missed. I´m so sorry to the family.
