David Cushing, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2025, at the age of 55. Born on Christmas Eve, 1969, in San Francisco, CA, his arrival carried a family legend, that he was born on the Golden Gate Bridge. From the very beginning, David brought humor and joy to those around him.

David was developmentally disabled, and his early years were not easy. His parents were unable to care for him. After his mother's passing, David entered foster care at age six, where he faced many hardships. Despite these challenges, he carried through life with a resilient spirit and a gift for giving the kind of bear hugs that made people feel seen and loved.

In adulthood, David found his true home in his chosen family. Through his dear friend Deborah Gorman-Sprague, David met Pamela Gorman, who became his devoted caretaker and lifelong friend. He later made his home with Pam in Canton, MA, where he was embraced by Pam's siblings, Philip and Liz, and her late sisters Susan and Debbie, Pam's daughter Bettina, cousin Hal, and housemate Delores. To them, and to countless friends and neighbors, he was "Cush," a cherished presence whose quirks and humor left a lasting mark.

David was known for his unique style, famously wearing his winter coat year-round and avoiding showers unless persuaded with good humor by Pam's cousin Hal. He loved his haircuts from Ronnie, Pam's former brother-in-law, and was endlessly devoted to the Canton Police Department, listening to the police scanner for fun and proudly carrying the honorary badge they presented him.

Though his life began with hardship, David's story is one of resilience, love, and community. He will be remembered for his humor, his loyalty, his quirks, and above all, his unforgettable hugs.

David is survived by his sister Valery Santos-Cushing, his nephews Cody and Dylan Smith, his found family, and the many friends and community members whose lives he touched.
A celebration of David's life will be held in Canton, MA. In the near future.
