David Denton Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Talbott Funeral Home - Belington on Sep. 3, 2025.
David Alan Denton, Jr June 26, 1940 – August 29, 2025

David Alan Denton Jr. (Dave) died peacefully on August 29, 2025, with family by his side at the age of 85. David "Alan" Denton and Mildred Sinclair Denton welcomed their son Dave into the world on June 26th, 1940, in Covington, KY. Seven years later they had another son, James Sinclair Denton, who preceded Dave in death in 2021. Dave married his high school sweetheart, Ann Hounshell in 1959 and quickly started a family while working at Brown and Williamson tobacco. Robert Neal Denton (Neal) was followed by David Alan Denton III (Alan), and then Karyn Stephanie Denton a few years later. He reveled in very physical basketball games with his boys until they grew stronger, which led to trips to the hospital! Dave started working for the American Red Cross and moved his way from Louisville, KY to Concord, NH, to Rochester, NY until he was awarded his first Executive Director role in Newark, NJ. He left to work in Alexandria, VA at Eastern Area HQ and then was assigned Executive Director of the Cleveland chapter in the late 70s. He then moved to head the Philadelphia Chapter and finished his career as the VP of Midwestern Operations in St. Louis with responsibilities across the Midwest. He earned degrees from the University of Louisville and Cleveland State University. Dave also enjoyed a retirement career as a licensed massage therapist for 15 years. Dave and Ann sadly divorced after 22 years of marriage, but he found a second love in Kathy Broderick in 1984, and they enjoyed life together for the next 17 years, settling in West Virginia during his retirement. As Yogi Berra stated, "it ain't over 'til it's over" also pertains to love and Dave married Margo Blevin in 2008 in Elkins, WV. Dave and Margo and their two corgis, Duchess and Goldie, enjoyed life in the mountains for close to the next fifteen years. His marriage to Margo ended in 2022, but never their friendship. Dave moved to Harmony at Spring Hill in Lorton, VA, in June of this year and thoroughly enjoyed his final months with the wonderful residents and sta His family is forever grateful to those friends who graced his final encore chapter. Dave is survived by his children, Neal (Julie), Alan (Celeste) and Karyn. He loved his grandchildren Alyssa Mutterperl (Noah), Gracie Echales (Gil), Willa Denton, Tatum O'Dea (Dillon), Lizzy Denton, Hailey Denton and Adam Baldassari. He was proud of his stepchildren, John, Scott and Jane Blevin, too. He is survived and celebrated by the loves of his life, Ann Marcy, Kathy Denton and Margo Blevin Denton. Dave epitomized the Frank Sinatra hit, "I did it my way" and will be missed by all.

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, charitable contributions to the American Red Cross or to your local animal shelter would be most appropriate.

A private graveside service will be conducted from the Beverly Cemetery in Beverly on Wednesday September 10, 2025 at 11:00 am with Albert Brown, Evangelist officiating. The family asks for his family and friends to join them in a memorial service for Dave at the Graceland Inn & Restaurant in Elkins, WV at 1:00 pm following the graveside service. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.talbottfuneralhome.com. The Talbott Funeral Home in Belington is in charge of the arrangements for David Alan Denton Jr.
