David D. Dewar

David Dale Dewar of Greenville WI, age 77, passed away on August 15, 2023 at his home after a long and courageous battle with lung disease and Myasthenia Gravis. He was born on April 16, 1946 in the city of Perham MN. He was the son of Malcolm and Marjory (Kuhlman) Dewar.    Dave spent his younger years growing up with his parents and siblings on the farm in Perham MN where he said that he was encouraged to work hard, always do his best and to find and make good and dear friends in life (which he did, lucky him). Dave eventually moved to the big city (Minneapolis, MN) where he met the love of his life Betty. Looking back he said that they were just two kids (19 and 20). He liked to tell the story about his very “romantic” proposal to Betty which was at the circus where he hid her ring in a box of Cracker Jacks. He laughed at how young they were.They were married on October 16, 1966 and were married for 57 years. They have three loving children and four beautiful grandchildren.   Dave always seemed to find ways to have fun. Throughout his life he was known as a prankster with a wonderful sense of humor. He called every flower that Betty grew a petunia. He loved to laugh and make others laugh too. His laugh was contagious and it was one of his most charming qualities. He was a people guy. He loved to meet new people and learn about who they were and what made them tick. He remembered details about them and made friends easily. He always thought of others before himself. He was the kind of guy that you just liked right away. Dave said that it was the people in his life that made it a life so well lived. He adored his brothers and sisters, extended family and all of his friends. He said those relationships were the most important thing in his life.    He was a family man. He loved his children and their spouses and treated them like his own. His grandchildren were the prize in his life. He lit up like a Christmas tree whenever they were around. They brought him so much love and joy. He treasured spending time with them as they grew up over the years and was so proud of the people they’ve become. He loved their spouses and significant others and was so happy for the life ahead them.    Dave was extremely intelligent and loved to work on crossword puzzles in the daily paper. He was an avid reader. He loved to shoot trap and sporting clays, so much so, that he volunteered at the gun range and loved spending time there. Shooting was the one thing he was unable to do these past few years and he really missed it.   Dave had several careers including being a Chemist at Rosemont Engineering (MN) an Air Traffic Controller at Austin Straubel Airport Green Bay, WI, an Insurance Agent for Equitable Life (Green Bay & St. Louis MO) and finally an Estate Planner for Pacific Life and Met Life (Detroit MI, St. Louis MO). Dave loved to volunteer with many organizations throughout his life and especially through his church including feeding the homeless, helping families in need and the Knights of Columbus. One of his most recent and favorite volunteer activities was helping with the transportation needs for several of the retired Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother in Oshkosh WI. He loved their adventures and the fun they had on these outings around town.    Dave is survived by his wife Betty; children, Jane (David) Hayhoe, Scott (Kimberly) Dewar, Patrick (Lori) Dewar; grandchildren: Joseph (Kay) Dewar, Caitlan (Matt) Heiss, Gabe (fiancé Catie) Dewar and Abigail Dewar; siblings Darrell (Yolanda) Dewar, Jackie (Bill) Kriesel, Vicki (Mike) Zachar and Craig (Denise) Dewar. Preceded in death by his parents Malcolm and Marjory Dewar.    Funeral Services with Christian burial will be held on Friday September 1, 2023 at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception, N2385 Municipal Drive, Greenville WI 54942. Visitation will be from 9-11 with mass beginning at 11. Internment to follow immediately at St. Mary’s Cemetery.    The family would like to thank all of those who helped care for Dave, especially his physicians and the loving care team at Compassus Hospice (DJ, Creation and Maise).     “Dad you were always there for us, your eyes so full of pride. All the love you had for us, you could never hide. You taught us things most every day no matter what we’d do. And now we simply want to say, how much we will always love you”.       Good bye sweet “Goompa” until we meet again.
