David D. Dorris, age 74 of Mitchell and formerly of Huron, passed away on Monday, January 6, 2025 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. His funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at Welter Funeral Home with burial to follow at Riverside Cemetery in Huron. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the funeral home.
David Dorris was born on January 14, 1950, in Mitchell, South Dakota to parents Alfred Dorris and Beulah (Hornback) Summers. He attended school in Mitchell, graduating from Mitchell High School.
David married Mary Kraft on November 24, 1968, in Huron. The family lived in Mitchell and Huron where David drove concrete trucks for many years. He also worked as a power lineman. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping. One of his favorite hunting trips was when he went to Texas to do a wild hog hunt with his son and two of his grandsons.
He is survived by his wife, Mary of Mitchell; children, Mike (Tonya) Dorris of Huron, MaryJo (Rod) Bult of Huron, Spring (Troy) Metter of Iroquois, Connie (Kenny) Dorris of Mitchell, and Shane (Jenn) Dorris of Kansas City, Kansas; 23 grandchildren, Michael & Nicole, David & Christen, Brandon & Taylor, Nessa & Lucas, Lucas, Brandon M. Tim, Dillon, Brett(Ranae), Tyler, Devon, Taylor, Blake, Sam, Lewis, Brittany, Haylee, Ashley, Danyell(Cody), Jacob, Damian, Ethan, Shane Jr.; and great-grandchildren.
His siblings; Sandy (Darin) Story of Huron, Don (Peggy) Dorris of Tulare, Wynn (Mariah) Dorris of Huron, Vicky Jo (Mike) Rudd of Huron, Nickie Dorris of Huron, Carol (James) Stainbrook of Roswell, Greg (Leanne) Summers of Casper, Wyo., and Todd Summers; Heather Summers of Casper, Wyo., and Jackie Young of Casper, Wyo.
He was preceded in death by his parents Beulah Summers and Alfred Dorris; brothers Jim, Mike, and Rick Dorris, Mark Summers, granddaughter Autumn Dorris; grandparents and great-grandparents.
