David Alan Duet, 55, of Coral Springs, Florida, passed away peacefully on November 26, 2022, in Louisville, Kentucky following a 20-month battle with colon cancer.
David was born on February 10, 1967, to William and Joyce Duet in Fort Hood, Texas, the son of a career Army officer. After David graduated from Larue County High School in Hodgenville, Kentucky in 1985, he went on to study electrical engineering at the University of Louisville's J.B. Speed School of Engineering. At UofL, David was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon and in 1989, during his final year at UofL, was named Mr. Cardinal, an award presented by UofL's Student Activities Board based on a student's academic excellence, co-curricular activities, and service to the university.
After graduating with bachelor's and master's degrees in engineering from UofL in 1989, he worked for Texas Instruments in Stafford, Texas designing digital signal processors.
In 1988 David met his husband Bill Long in Louisville, Kentucky. David and Bill spent over 34 wonderful years together; including over 26 years living in Houston, Texas and more than six years living in South Florida. Two of David's happiest moments were the adoption of their two children Jacob and Ethan from Antigua, Guatemala as infants in 2001 and 2003. In 2001, David retired from Texas Instruments to stay at home full-time to help raise and nurture their new family.
David loved spending time and traveling with his family; he was a wonderfully skilled cook utilizing recipes from his parents and grandparents; he loved tending to his flowers and plants; and especially loved the challenging but painstakingly detailed drafting work for his home renovation and newbuild construction projects. He also loved mobile online strategy games and became a hyper-dedicated player of Clash of Clans. David's attention to detail was never more apparent than his indexed and amazingly organized Christmas decoration collection amassed over decades. As an aside, please pray for Bill who has no chance at ever managing to get all of David's vast and unique collection back in the correct boxes where they belong!
David is survived by his beloved husband Bill; his sons, Jacob and Ethan; his parents Bill and Joyce; his loving brother and sisters Tad (Debbie), Kim Pruitt (Vernon), and Michelle Crull (Bruce); and countless other family members.
David was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Lester and Belle Simoneaux, and maternal grandparents Earl and Helen Matson.
Visitation will be held at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd, on Friday, December 9th, from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm. A Funeral Mass is scheduled at the Cathedral of the Assumption Catholic Church, 433 South 5th Street, Louisville, KY 40202, on Saturday, December 10th at 10:00 a.m. with burial to follow at Cave Hill Cemetery.
The family wishes to thank all of the wonderful caregivers who supported David following his diagnosis, including Dr. Rohan Faria and the team at Oncology and Hematology Associates of West Broward; the doctors and staff at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas; the home hospice care team at Vitas Healthcare, including Dr. Jim Leung and Dina Grieshaber, RN, BSN; and Hosparus of Louisville.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that expressions of sympathy be made as memorial donations or contributions in David's memory to the Colorectal Cancer Alliance, The American Association for Cancer Research, or the charity of your choice.
"Now cracks a noble heart. Good-night, sweet prince;
And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest."

David worked at the Downtown YMCA in Louisville. I was a science teacher with a background in biology and anatomy. David explained the three classes of levers so I could teach it to middle schoolers. He was brilliant and a kind person.
