David Wayne Falin (self-proclaimed King of Comedy), 61, of Welch passed away peacefully at home on Friday, December 30, 2022 after a courageous battle with Multiple Myeloma. He was born October 24, 1961 in Welch, West Virginia to I. J. and Virginia (Taylor) Falin.
After attending Welch High and being known as "that dude that fell down the gym stairs", David graduated from Mount View High School as part of the first graduating class in 1979, where he was voted wittiest by his senior class. He was employed as a trust and financial advisor at MCNB Banks where he worked for over forty years and considered himself the bank's historian. Besides family, David loved the bank, his co-workers, his clients, and McDowell County more than anything. Many recognized him as a suit-wearing bank professional, while others knew him as a fun-loving family man. A huge fan of Batman, he was often quoted as saying, "I'm not saying I am Batman; I'm just saying you've never seen us in the same room together."
David was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Welch, WV. He was a member of the Welch Lions Club, McDowell County Shriners, and McDowell Masonic Lodge #112 AF&AM.
David was happily married to his high school sweetheart, Carolyn Hatfield Falin for forty-one years. He is also survived by his daughter, Kristen L. Riffe and her husband Joe of Bluefield, WV; daughter Kara B. Moore and her husband, Jimmy of Welch, WV; brother Norman Falin of Greenbank, WV; six grandchildren: Caleb R. Lawson, Madison T. Riffe, Avery E. Moore, Alivia P. Moore, Jim M. Moore, Jr., and Donald J. Moore. He is survived by several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Susan Frazier.
David was a kind and gentle spirit that loved being around family and friends. He was always the life of the party. He enjoyed traveling, repeating stories, the Three Stooges, all things superhero, listening to music, and repeating stories (Yeah, we know--you told us already). David played a mean tennis racket guitar and created "the Falin", his famous dance he enjoyed with friends and family. He is now dancing with Cuz and other loved ones in heaven. David, donning his purple metallic shirt, fake chest hair, pink scarf, and white fedora, often did standup comedy for the local Lions Club (F & P Society) and other events. He also played tennis, racquetball, pickleball, and was a "not-so-good" golfer.
As a lover of technology, electronics, and gadgets, the family asks that you keep Carolyn in your thoughts and prayers, as she will now struggle to complete simple tasks such as turning on the lights in their home.
A celebration of David's life will be held on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at Fanning Funeral Home in Welch at 12:00 p.m., with visitation one hour prior to the service. Reverend and dear friend, Bill (Rev) Spencer, will officiate.
In the words of David, "keep smiling, laughing, and playing after I'm gone. We will reunite again until then IYM."
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations be made to Wake Forest University of Medicine, Section of Hematology Oncology, Attn: Debbie Olson, 1 Medical Center Blvd, Winston-Salem, NC 27157 (Subject for Donation: Myeloma Research Fund)
