David Paul Fletcher

 

David Paul Fletcher, beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, returned to his Father-in-Heaven on a Monday morning, November 21st, 2022. David was born in Salt Lake City, UT, to Paul Johnson Fletcher and Naone Huntsman Fletcher. He was raised 'where the mountains meet the desert', in Ferron, UT, where he developed his love for the mountains, the forests, and nature and developed such hobbies as hunting, fishing, and exploring. Such interests helped him in his experience as a boy scout and with eventually earning his Eagle badge. He also developed a real interest in a variety of sports and was a member of his high school basketball team. His senior year, David and his family moved to the Davis County area, where he was the sports editor of the Davis High School newsletter. He also graduated from Davis High School and would go on to serve an LDS mission in the North British area. After his mission, David would then go on to serve his country by enlisting in the military as a marine. He graduated from Weber State with a bachelor’s in science and would go on to get his master’s in electrical engineering at Utah State University.  On February 14th, 1969, he married Esther D. King, but they later divorced. They had two children--a son, Jared, & a daughter, Tina.

 

David was an avid hunter and sportsman, where he spent a lot of his time with his son, Jared, deer hunting and worked as a coach in a variety of different sports, such as football, baseball, & basketball. In his later years, he would continue to work in recreational sports in both Davis County and Weber State, as a referee. He worked for Hill Air Force Base for over 30 years until he retired. He was an active member of the Church of Latter-day Saints where he served in many callings that involved ministering to his neighbors, the scouting program, the Seventies quorum, volunteer work, & emergency preparedness.

 

He was an amazing example of kindness, love, and understanding to anyone he met, and he had a strong testimony of the of the Gospel that he wasn't afraid to share with others. To his family, he was a very hard-working, fun, loving, kind, unselfish, and compassionate father and grandpa that loved them unconditionally, and he always did all he could to help them and support them in whatever they did. We will all miss him dearly!

 

David was also an animal lover, and, in his lifetime, he took care of and loved many pets; a love and behavior that would rub off on both his children and grandchildren.

 

David is survived by his daughter, Tina Fletcher Saulnier, Clinton, UT; and two granddaughters, Nikkita Saulnier (Matthew) Johnson & Rebecca Saulnier. He is also survived by his two younger brothers, Mike Fletcher and Robert Fletcher.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his older sister Bonnie Conover. He was also preceded by his son, Jared Fletcher, who he loved and missed dearly. There is no doubt that this reunion with his family and loved ones has been a happy one!

 

Tina, and her family, would like to express their appreciation to the incredibly loving and caring staff at Chancellor Gardens for love and care that they gave David, as well as the Symbii Home and Hospice Care for their tender mercies.

 

Funeral services will be held Saturday December 3, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Rd., Layton, Utah.  Friends may visit with family Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.
