David R. Gawelek, 74, of Mount Vernon, formerly of Cleveland, passed away on Wednesday evening, October 15, 2025, at Knox Community Hospital. He was born on October 26, 1950 in Berea to the late Walter P. and Marjorie G. (Brown) Gawelek.
David graduated from Parma High School and Cleveland State University. After graduation, he joined the Army and served as a Medic. He was an Electrical Engineer for over 50 years, working for several companies, including JTl/LTV Steel Company, Traub Container, Weyerhaeuser, and PCA Corrugated Manufacturing. David was a Catholic by faith.
David is survived by his wife, Judith Gawelek (nee Tetlak), whom he married on April 9, 2005; sons David Gawelek and Ross Gawelek, daughter, Allison Mylander, stepdaughters Therese Schumacher, Sarah Schumacher, Valerie Schumacher and Emily Schumacher. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren whom he adored.
David was a generous and devoted brother, husband, father, and grandfather. He loved to fix things, never shying away from even the most difficult project. An avid reader, he loved all things music, art, and nature.
The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at the Snyder Funeral Homes, Flowers Chapel 619 East High St., Mount Vernon. A funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home, with Deacon Tim Birie presiding.
