David Allan Gumieny, age 86, of Elkhart Lake, WI, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2023 at his home with his loving family by his side.
He was born on September 28, 1936, in Muskego, WI, a son of the late Andrew and Marie (Brzezinski) Gumieny.
Dave attended Barber Technical College in Milwaukee and served in the United States Air Force.
On February 7, 1959, he married Joyce Napientek at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Franklin.
He was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Elkhart Lake. He served on the Town of Rhine Board on the Variance Committee and the Sheboygan County Board on the Law Committee.
Dave retired from Kettle Moraine Correctional Institution, but his passion was cutting hair and serving his customers. His Barbershop was known for being the largest barber pole. He also enjoyed repairing lawn mowers, his John Deere Tractors, and in his younger years spending time at the lake Up North.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce; five children, Steve (Dee) Gumieny, Jeff (Lisa) Gumieny, Mike (Judy) Gumieny, Judy Kraus, and Ted (Amy) Gumieny; thirteen grandchildren, Cory, Jessica, Ross, Austin, Casey, Lindsay, Clinton, Chad, Brian, Andy, Jack, Gavin, and Sophia; 21 great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law, John (Marsha) Napientek and Dale Diaz; and sisters-in-law, Jackie (Nick) Ioder, Janice (Al) Schmidt, and Peggy Napientek.
He was also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 15 siblings, son-in-law, Bob Kraus; great-grandchild, Owen Abler; sister-in-law, Joan Diaz; and brother-in-law, Jerry Napientek.
Visitation will be held on Friday (March 31, 2023) at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Elkhart Lake from 1:30 PM – 3:00 PM; with Mass to follow at 3:00 PM. Father Philip Reifenberg will officiate. Inurnment will take place at St. Thomas Aquinas North Catholic Cemetery.
Military honors will take place following Mass.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in David's name.
