It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of David Arthur Heckman of Wichita, Kansas who died on August 14th, 2025 at the age of 70. He was a gentle and kind soul and we will miss his endearing giggle.
Dave was born in Emporia, Kansas on July 13th, 1955 to John and Lora Heckman. He graduated high school in Independence, Kansas in 1973. He attended classes at Wichita State University and has remained in Wichita for about 45 years. During his time in Wichita he worked as an optician. He worked for various optometrists over the years, retiring from Doerkson Eye Clinic in 2025. Dave was known for his precision as an optician and his ability to find and adjust the perfect frames for his customers who asked for him by name.
David enjoyed sports and was a long time Kansas City Chiefs season ticket holder. He also attended many basketball games at Wichita State. David enjoyed animals; the dogs he grew up with, trips to the zoo, but he had a special place in his heart for cats. He really enjoyed a trip to the casino with his buddies, and hearing live bands.
David was married twice, had no children of his own and spent the last years of his life as a bachelor. He is survived by his two sisters Shirley Stoffel and Janelle Stone and her husband Steve, and his niece Lora Wessels, and nephew Cody Stoffel.
David's life will be celebrated at the Cozine Life Events Center located at 11500 E. 21st Street N in Wichita. The memorial gathering will be on Thursday, September 4th at 2:30 pm.
