Barbara Lucile Sherrill, age 65, of Iola, Kansas, passed away on August 20, 2025.
Born and raised in Iola, Barbara was a proud Mustang and graduate of Iola High School. She went on to earn her bachelor's and master's degrees from Pittsburg State University. She also completed her Education Specialist Degree from Wichita State University. Her passion for helping others guided her long and meaningful career as a school psychologist and counselor-primarily in Mulvane, Kansas, and later back in Iola, where she brought her professional journey full circle in the community where it all began.
Barbara's work touched the lives of countless students and families. Her compassion, thoughtful guidance, and calm presence left a lasting impact on all who knew her. She was known for her sharp mind, quiet strength, warm heart, and unwavering loyalty.
Barbara was deeply devoted to her sisters, daughters, and grandchildren, supporting every interest and milestone with pride and love. After retiring, she found peace and fulfillment on her farm in Iola-her sanctuary. There, she spent her days running with her dogs, playing with her grandkids, caring for her cats, and tending to her beloved Polled Herefords. Her deep bond with animals earned her the affectionate nickname "animal whisperer," a title she wore with joy.
She enjoyed music, nature, and making memories with family and friends. Her life was filled with love, laughter, and a quiet, enduring grace. Barbara is survived by her sister, Jeanie Sherrill Stultz (Mike Stultz) of Scottsdale, AZ; beloved nephew Galen LG Morrison; brother-in-law Jim Shearer of Blue Springs, MO; identical twin daughters Sherrill Ann Sanders (Kyle Borem) and granddaughter Kenzie Scott of Olathe, KS; Stacey Dawn Howell (Dr. Matthew Howell) and grandchildren Ellie, Rowen, and Remy of Wichita, KS; cherished niece Dr. Joy Furman (Dr. Matthew Furman) and kids Blake, Preston, and Greyson of Elgin, SC. She is also survived by an uncle and an aunt, many cousins, and numerous extended family members and friends who held her close. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Sally Sherrill, and her sisters, Denise Sherrill and Susie Sherrill Shearer.
A private family celebration of Barbara's life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Humboldt City Pound in her honor-reflecting her lifelong love for animals. Memorials may be left with or mailed to Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, 1883 US Highway 54, Iola, Kansas 66749.
