David Newton Hefner, 66, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 11, 2025, surrounded by his family, in Lafayette.
A private service will be held in Fountain Memorial Cemetery at a later date.
David Newton Hefner, was born August 18, 1958, in Lafayette and was a long-time resident of Acadiana. He worked in the oil and gas industry.
David greatly enjoyed the Louisiana outdoors, especially bass fishing. This sometimes caused him a few predicaments, such as the time that he had to walk back to Lafayette from Spanish Lake after a night of fishing because his truck and boat trailer became mired in deep mud on the boat ramp.
He will fondly be remembered for his quick sense of humor that was sure to bring a smile and laugh from those around him. Also, to be remembered are his various antics, like hanging an old wasp nest in his bedroom only to find himself being buzzed by wasps a few days later.
David is survived by his two sons, Jeromi Hefner, of Chehalis, WA and Timothy Hefner, of Albuquerque, NM and their mother, Diana; his three brothers, Michael Hefner and his wife, Mary, Daniel Hefner and his wife, Blanche, and James Hefner and his wife, Julie and his two sisters, Kathy Cornay and her husband, Steve and Laurie Hefner.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Newton and Kathryn LaJaunie Hefner and one sister, Kim Hefner.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Dr. Dakota Jenneman, all of the Our Lady of Lourdes ICU nurses who helped with his care and the staff of Maison de Lafayette and St. Joseph Hospice.
