Born on August 26, 1949, in Munich, Germany, to George and Helen (Mollik) Helms, David's journey was marked by a deep commitment to both his faith and his family. He graduated from George Washington High School in 1967 and went on to earn a B.A. in Physics from Temple University, followed by a B.A. in Biblical Studies from Philadelphia Bible College. His professional life was as diverse as it was impactful, with roles at Radiation Management Co., Niagara Mohawk Nuclear Plant, D.C. Cook, and Bartlet Nuclear. David also shared his passion for service as the pastor at Plymouth Congregational Church and as the owner of Lake Michigan Tile. For 19 years, he inspired readers with his column "Spiritual Compass Points" in the Tri City Record.
David was a dedicated member of the Light Bearers Association and the Gideons, reflecting his unwavering faith and commitment to community service. He was a man of many interests, finding joy in fishing with his sons, camping with his family, and capturing the beauty of life through black and white photography, for which he received several awards. His love for adventure extended to metal detecting, racquetball, and candle making. Above all, David was a devoted father who prioritized his sons' lives, always making time for them despite his busy schedule.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Jane, whom he married on June 23, 1979; his two sons, Joe Helms of Stevensville and Dan Helms of Fort Worth, TX; a brother, Phil Helms of Cheyenne, WY; and six cherished grandchildren, Lucille, Evelyn, Vivien, Charlotte, Kaitlyn, and Daimon. David was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Dale Helms, in 2024.
David C. Helms leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and service that will continue to inspire all who knew him. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for his kindness, wisdom, and the light he brought into the lives of others.
