David Martin Hornsby was born in Fort Wainwright, Alaska to Virgil Clark Hornsby Jr. and Betty Ann Tate on February 26th, 1964. He passed away surrounded by his family in Springfield, Missouri on September 16th, 2024.
David attended high school in Delta Junction, Alaska but would obtain his GED after enlisting in the US Army in 1981 at the age of 17, serving until receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1984. Shortly after his service, David was employed by a soon to be dear family friend, Dennis Wise, working as a Maintenance Supervisor in Fairbanks, Alaska. David would go on to move to Springfield Missouri with his family in 2005 and worked for TLC Properties as a Maintenance Supervisor and Compliance Officer for 17 years. Through this work and his hobbies David formed countless friendships, many of which would go on to become family.
David met the love of his life, Roberta Joy Musgrove, in Delta Junction in October 1981 on the side of the road, after offering her a ride to Fort Greely she would never leave his side. They would go on to marry on February 11th, 1983, and soon welcomed three daughters into the family, Samantha, Tabbatha, and Kimberly Hornsby. Together they opened their home to fifty-four foster children, going on to adopt their fourth daughter Miranda Hornsby.
David was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Ann Tate, and his father, Virgil Clark Hornsby.
David now watches over his wife, Roberta Hornsby; four daughters, Samantha, Tabbatha, Kimberly, and Miranda; eight grandchildren, Julius, Devon, Kylie, Kiya, Marcus, Emma, Ezralynn, and Gracie; brother and sister, Virgil Jr. and Cindy; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
He enjoyed camping, fishing, snow machining, drag racing, where he became the Alaska State Champion in 2002 and watching the Kansas City Chiefs with his family at the Silver Leaf.
David's life and laughter will forever be in the hearts of his family, friends, and all that knew him.
Warriors' Watch Riders will render a final salute at 3:00 PM, Thursday, September 26, 2024, at Walnut Lawn Funeral Home, 2001 W. Walnut Lawn St., in Springfield. After which, Full Military Honors will be given including a twenty-one-gun salute and flag presentation by active duty United States Army. Proceeding, David's ashes will be escorted by his family to the Silver Leaf Bar at 3151 W State Hwy M by his friends and family for a family lead Celebration of Life at 4:00PM.
